Biographical Note
Dr. Conrad Fernandez was cross-appointed to the Department of Bioethics in 2004. Conrad is a professor of pediatric hematology/oncology at the IWK Health Centre and Dalhousie University. He completed an undergraduate Hon BSc in Genetics in 1982 at the University of Western Ontario before attending medical school at McMaster University. After completing a rotating internship there in 1986, Conrad worked for two years as a family doctor in Northern Ontario. He then travelled extensively for a year before entering a pediatrics residency program at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax. Subsequent to the completion of his pediatric residency, Conrad travelled and worked in Kenya. Following this, he completed a pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship and a supplementary six month bone marrow transplant fellowship at the University of British Columbia. Conrad then worked for a year as a clinical instructor at British Columbia's Children's Hospital before returning to Halifax in 1998 and beginning his work at the IWK Health Centre.
