Biographical Note
Jeff Kirby is an associate professor in the Department of Bioethics. As an ethics consultant with a background in medicine and philosophy, his primary responsibilities are with the Department’s innovative ethics collaborations with Capital Health, the IWK Health Centre and the Nova Scotia Health Ethics Network. Jeff is engaged in, and provides an ethics lens to, health policy development and consultations regarding organizational ethics issues and complex clinical ethics cases. He teaches ethics-related topics and concepts to undergraduate medical students and post-graduate residents, and works with provincial district health authorities and the Nova Scotia Department of Health & Wellness to enhance their capacity for ethics-informed decision making at multiple organizational levels. Jeff’s current areas of research interest are: organizational ethics, deliberative engagement approaches to health policy development and resource allocation, ethics issues of relevance to organ donation/transplantation, and ethics analysis of complex health care practices.
Jeff also works part time as a physician psychotherapist at Dalhousie University Health Services.
